DNP 2026 – Digital Product Passport – PKN Conference
On 20 May, we celebrated Polish Standardization Day – a celebratory day for everyone contributing to a modern, safe, and sustainable economy. On that day, a PKN conference entitled “Digital Product Passport – Standards as the Foundation of a Sustainable and Digital Economy” was held at the Gromada Centrum Hotel in Warsaw. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Development and Technology, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is not only about technology and data. It also concerns interoperability, information security, trust, and common principles governing the European market. DPP is also one of the key tools for building a transparent and responsible economy.
The conference was opened by Ewa Zielińska – President of PKN, who welcomed the guests and all speakers. The event was moderated by Anna Komar – Director of the External Relations Department at PKN.
Presentations
During the event, experts from public administration, business, and the standardization community discussed how common standards support digital transformation, the circular economy, and the development of transparent and responsible value chains.
Iwona Łosiewicz – Head of the Logistics, Transport and Packaging Sector at PKN – presented the role of PKN and standards in building the DPP ecosystem in Poland; Mariusz Biedrzycki from the Ministry of Development and Technology presented the concept of the Digital Product Passport from the perspective of public administration; and Dr Eng. Grzegorz Sokołowski from GS1 Poland discussed issues related to data, identification, and building trust in the context of DPP.
Panel discussion
The challenges and opportunities related to the implementation of the Digital Product Passport were discussed by the panel participants: Anna Adamczyk – Axelote Sp. z o.o., Dr Eng. Michał Grabia – Hadatap Sp. z o.o., and Mariusz Biedrzycki – Ministry of Development and Technology. The panel was moderated by Ewa Zielińska – President of PKN.
The speakers agreed that DPP will become one of the key tools supporting the transition towards a more sustainable, transparent, and digital economy. At the same time, they emphasized that the market is not yet fully prepared for its implementation — especially small and medium-sized enterprises, which face challenges such as a lack of knowledge, limited resources, fragmented data, and uncertainty regarding the final scope of requirements.
An important topic discussed was the role of standards, which are expected to provide a common language, system interoperability, and the ability for passports to function efficiently throughout the supply chain. The panelists pointed out that DPP should not be viewed solely as a regulatory obligation, but also as an opportunity to increase the competitiveness of the European economy, improve raw material management, combat unfair competition and counterfeiting, and strengthen consumer trust.
The conclusion of the discussion was that the coming years will be a period of intensive learning, testing, and refining of solutions. Market education, dialogue between public administration and businesses, and practical support for companies in organizing data and adapting systems to new requirements will be of key importance.
Presentation of the PKN “Compass of Standardization” Award
At the end of the conference, the PKN “Compass of Standardization” Award ceremony took place, continuing the established tradition. The award is granted to individuals, legal entities, and organizational units in recognition of their achievements in supporting standardization.
This year’s award winners were:
- Dr Eng. Andrzej Pogorzelski – for his contribution to promoting standardization activities, the use of standards, and efforts to ensure their highest quality;
- The Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine – for its high awareness of the importance of standardization and active involvement in standardization activities.
We would like to thank all participants, partners, and experts for the inspiring meeting and for creating a space for exchanging knowledge and experience.
